It’s been over a year since I joined Fortune after two years at VentureBeat, and it quickly became clear that I couldn’t keep up my Sharon’s AI Extra Substack with any regularity.
The AI beat is a beast. You probably know that if you are struggling to read all you can to keep up with the latest developments in the space. I have zero bandwidth and the kind of industry roundups I was hoping to get more deeply into here are simply never going to happen. On the other hand, simply linking to my Fortune stories doesn’t add value to anyone (though I will still do so and hope you will read and subscribe and follow me there!)
Instead, I need to shift the vibe, both for myself and for the reader. Going forward, I’d like this to be more of my notebook scribbles on AI—filled with curiosities, tangents, and commentary that don’t always fit into my day job reporting at Fortune. Expect musings on policy and geopolitics, behind-the-scenes threads from the AI beat, and links I find too good to ignore.
A couple of weeks ago I spent six days on a winding road trip from Phoenix to Las Vegas. Consider AI Side Notes my winding road trip through my journey as an AI reporter—never boring, with plenty of detours, roadside oddities and off-the-beaten-path finds. I’ll be posting a couple of times a week.
Cheers,
Sharon
Is a smart way to do it!
